Mom: Hey buddy how was scouts today?

Matt: Good!

Mom: What did you do?

Matt: Well, we didn't go there...but we learned about the food pyramid.

Mom: You didn't go there?

Matt: Nope. But we learned about good foods to eat and I ate some not-cooked carrots!

So cute! I did end up telling him that the food pyramid wasn't actually a structure that you could visit, but was just a guide for how we should eat...but how funny is that!

Matthew Looses Tooth # 3!!!

At 8 1/2 years old you'd think that loosing a tooth would be old news...well not for Matthew. This will only be the 3rd tooth that he's lost. Well behind most of his classmates who are on #'s 6-8! Both he and Joey (who is 6) had only lost 2 teeth up to a few days ago when this one came out.

Now, the tooth WAS loose, but I told Matthew to wait a few more days then I'd be able to pull it out for him. He said "ok" with out an argument. Then as soon as Jess got home from work he showed his Daddy...and Jess said, "do you want me to pull it out?" "Yeah, yeah!" Matthew answers jumping up and down. Ignoring my insistence that it wasn't quite ready yet, Jess and his needle-nose pliers got to work on the tooth. He gave it one quick yank. The tooth didn't quite come out, but it was bleeding a lot and just hanging there. Matt stepped back, looked in the mirror, wiggled his tongue around in his mouth a little and spit the tooth onto his hand.

Matthew excitedly called Joey in the room..."No fair!" jokes Joey. "I want to loose a tooth!" So yay for Matthew, and yay for daddies who are braver than mommies! (I would NEVER take pliers to a tooth!)

Meet Chloe!

Introducing a talented little 6 year old girl...the beautiful little Miss Chloe. It looks like we have a swing dance partnership made in heaven! She and Matthew will be dancing a routine choreographed by the one and only Laurie Schwimmer in this years US Open Swing Dance Competition. Look out...here they come!

After their first time dancing together (he's already had a partner that didn't work out), I asked him what he thought of her and if he liked dancing with her. He said, "I love her...she's the perfect girl." So I guess the rest of their story is yet to be told...keep posed for more Matthew & Chloe updates!!!

Cub Scout Day Camp

Matthew and Jess got to go to a 4 hour long day-camp for the cub scouts. A father-and-son sort of thing. Both of them had fun spending time together.
There were games, races, and of course wood working.

Here is Matt demonstrating perfect crab-walk form.

Then dropping beans from the tip of his nose into a can...he got 3 out of 8 in! Pretty good.

5th Place!

Not too shabby for his first time! We went to the pinewood derby today and Matthew raced his golden racer against 21 other cars. His car came down the track at an average time of about 3.2 seconds. The fastest car getting a time of about 2.9 seconds and the slowest about 4.6 seconds. So over all he got 5th place! It was a lot of fun! Can't wait until next year!

Cute Little Lizard

Andrew found this lizard in the garage, Jess caught it, and Matthew bonded with it. And apparently the lizard liked him too!

We had to get going somewhere so we told Matthew to let him go in the bushes. He opened his hand and the lizard...well stayed. He seemed to like him. He liked being held and getting rubbed on the head. It was really funny. We wanted to keep him, but we encouraged him into the bushes and he was once again free.

Matthew seemed OK with letting him go, but we will always remember the cute little spotted lizard that didn't run away.

Matthew Gets Baptized!

Can you believe it? Matthew got baptized! He made the choice to enter into the waters of baptism on Saturday, December 13. The program was great. There was only one other child getting baptized and her family took care of the first half of the meeting. Then once the kids had been baptized the program continued and my mom and I sang "Choose The Right", Jess was able to give the talk on the Holy Ghost, and my dad said the closing prayer. The spirit was strong throughout the entire meeting.

The crew. Matthew is setting a great example for his younger brothers and little sister.

Grandma and Grandpa drove from CA to be with him on this very special day.

Matthew got some great gifts from people that love him:

*Mom and Dad: A suit
*Grandma and Grandpa: Scriptures w/a case, talking Nephi doll, piggy bank, Cub Scout Ring
*Auntie Natalie: A tie, a CTR soccer ball tie tack, scripture markers, a sacrament busy book

Hopefully I will be able to get him to sit down and write his feelings about his day. Look for that post later!

The Big Bad Wolf!!!

My mom and sister came to visit. And they brought along a gift from grandpa. This isn't unusual as he buys the kids little things when he thinks of them, then he is able to give things to them when he sees them. But this one got a reaction that nothing else has gotten. Now Matthew has just started Cub Scouts. He is what they call a wolf. My dad is very excited for Matt, and here is what he bought him.

There really are no words. The hat pretty well speaks for itself! Matthew loves it of course and tried to go to scouts in it the next day. I was able to talk him out of it for now, but he will bring it to the next pack meeting I'm sure.

Grandpas are the best! Especially when they are really 8 years old at heart. :)

Our First Scout

Introducing Matt...the most excited scout ever!

Ok, so it took me way longer to sew the patches on than I thought, but a couple of hours later, I was done! Sounds pathetic, I know! But I did it, and as soon as I finished Matt wanted the whole uniform on. It was about 12:30, and scouts wasn't until 5:00. Yes, you guessed it...he never took it off. He asked me if he could wear it and wait for scouts, and seeing his adorable enthusiasm, I of course agreed.

Well, 4:30 finally rolled around and we left. It was a little early, but we were excited. Since we were the first ones to the building I was able to get this great pic. I think of him as so big, but this pic shows how small he is. So cute!

He came back with knowledge of how to treat a bleeding wound and told me how to do it, step by step. He also told me that when the Den leader asked them to get their scout books out, he got his out fastest!
I love his enthusiasm and sweet excitement. We are so blessed to have him as our oldest. He sets an outstanding example for the other kids.

Matthew's 8th Birthday Party!!!

How FUN! A Halloween birthday party! We got dressed up and invited over some friends to celebrate. As you can see, Matt is the Flash and I, of course, a ballerina princess! He invited 20 kids, and 8 came. Pretty good for our first night-time party.

The first game was a "blind worm eating" contest. With hands behind their backs and blindfolded, they raced to see who could eat 5 gummy worms (one at a time) the fastest.

We also played a witch ring toss where they try to throw the ring around a witch hat (stuffed with newspaper).

The final attraction was what I called the "creepy feeler tables". With various food items I created an unusual collection of gross things for the kids to feel. They couldn't see what they were touching, only the sign above it telling what it was. Add a little bit of creepy sounds from a cd player, and it was a HUGE hit! Even the adults were creeped out a little.

*Here's what was showcased*

Bat Guts: Cut up cooked spaghetti noodles mixed with a good amount of peas
Werewolf Breath: (my personal favorite) Nothing. I put absolutely nothing in the box, and just laughed at each kids reaction to it. I'm so evil! :)
Cat Eyes: Grapes with a touch of veggie oil stirred in.
Rat Brains: Raw brussel sprouts tossed in a tiny bit of veggie oil
Goblin Teeth: I used corn from a can, but I thought about it later and I should've used unpopped pop corn.

CAKE TIME!!!
A simple cake. I just frosted some cookies and stuck them in and put clumps of frosting in front of them to make a little mini graveyard. (I split the candles to try and make it harder.)

I spent more time than usual decorating the house for this party, so I had to take pics of it before I took it down.

I forgot to take a picture of the front yard, I'm not sure why, but it was decorated too. Tombstones, a mummy coming out of the ground, a skeleton hanging from the roof, pumpkins, lights, a scary rat and bird, and tons more spider webs.

All in all, I have to give myself props for the best party I've ever thrown!

Another Soccer Season Over...Go Blue Dragons!!!

Matthew and his team has completed yet another undefeated season. We get a break from Now until January, when the winter season starts. It is going to be a little tricky next season because Joey is going to start soccer too! Matt had a great season. It is becoming pretty undeniable that he is a little short for his age when we see him compared to the other players. But it has never held him back. He is fast, and very tough. We are so proud of him and are looking for a way that we can move from our current league to a club team. He says that his favorite thing about soccer is scoring goals and being goalie. And his least favorite thing is loosing a game (which hasn't happened in two seasons) so it's safe to say that he loves everything about soccer.

2nd Graders Rule!

So here we are, another school year started. He still attends BFCS (Benjamin Franklin Charter School) and he has Miss Moss for a 2nd grade teacher. An extra thing to be excited about is that this year Joey is starting kindergarten! So they get to go to the same school for the first time! Matthew has been filling Joey in for the last few weeks and teaching him all about going to school. The rules, the fun activities...and how you don't want to go to the Principal's office!

He wanted me to get a picture of him on the swings before I left. Starting tomorrow I will just pull up to the curb and drop him off, so it is nice to see him playing at his recess.

So there he goes. My handsome little man, off to school. It seems to get easier as they get older, but then it hits you...how fast it is going. I try to cherish everyday!

Matthew Lost His First Tooth!

Here we go! I am a bit late on this post, but these pics are so cute I have to share them! Right after Lily's 1st birthday A tooth that had been loose for a while came out. He is 7 years old and hadn't lost a tooth yet!

I love these bloody pics! they are so cool.

Since then he has lost another tooth too. I'm pretty sure he lost the second one in July. So it has definitely begun and now all of his teeth seem to be loose!

Winter Season 2008

"Go Thunder!"

Here he is! Our little soccer star! He hasn't played soccer for almost 2 years, but you'd never know. He took his place as one of the top players on the team very quickly. Their team lost the first game of the season, but never lost again. It was a fun season. He was involved in many of the goals and assists and is so fun to cheer for! We didn't keep track of it all...too many. The best thing about this season is that Matthew really loves soccer. He practices on his own and looks forward to practices and games. It is fun to find something that they enjoy and are good at.

After the games the parents do a tunnel for the kids to run through. We cheer for them and it is a lot of fun. I LOVE his face here! :) Yeah Thunder!

Matthew made the Honor Roll...Again.

Matthew is a little stud as evidenced by the picture. He once again made the Honor Roll at school for the last grading period. He received straight A's which qualifies him for a special recognition. On Tuesday he'll be able to go to a party with every other straight A student in the school. Great job Matt!
